From the President

Football
An evening game under lights at Henson certainly had the hallmarks of being a great spectacle of football. In what was a close fought tussle, our boys, unfortunately, went down to a very strong St George side. The boys were all very disappointed at ending their season like that and I am sure are still hurting. As President, I wish to pass on my thanks for the work of this team and especially their coaching and management group. They have been a credit to the club and came so very close. I know it has become a cliché, but there is next season. We begin our run for this on November the 8th and I have a very high aspiration for this group in 2023. Thanks fellas.

But we turn our attention to our very successful Women’s Division 2 side. They play in the Grand Final on Sunday, at Henson Park, at 11.15 am. They have been prepared well and I know they will represent themselves, the team and the club very well. Good luck girls the entire club is behind you. Tickets to the Div 2 Women’s Grand Final can be bought here.

In other exciting news, our very own Ella Morris has signed a contract with the Casey Demons. After heading down and trialling with them last week, a proposal was on offer as soon as she landed back home. She heads down to join their pre-season in November and be a part of their VFLW Squad. We are very pleased for Ella and am sure this is another step in her achieving her AFLW dream. She gets to continue to wear the Demons jumper. We will be keenly following her progress. Well done, Ella. We will miss you at Pennant Hills, don’t be a stranger.

Facilities
On Wednesday 7th September the trucks move in to remove the soil pile from the lower oval that was extracted as part of Stage 1. This will complete Stage 1 works and Stage 2 is cleared to begin.

The Giants Baseball Club have also received an in-principle agreement to build a massive Stratco shed behind the fences near baseball diamond No.1. In discussion with baseball, this will provide an undercover, large, indoor training facility we can use during winter and also a potential gymnasium area also. Fingers crossed that baseball win the sports grant required.

Functions
AFL Grand Final Day
24th September at the club rooms and lower oval. We will have a family day with food and fun. Who is the club’s fastest 100m sprinter and longest kick? Sweeps for Norm Smith medallist, first goal scorer etc. It will be a fun day not to be missed.

We will look to conduct the best and fairest count for the club up to round 12. The last rounds will be counted on Presentation Day.

Sunday 30th October at the clubrooms. Celebrate our season that was and our best of the best. Trophies will be presented, and fun will be had.

Annual General Meeting
The club’s AGM will be held at the clubrooms on Monday the 12th December. I thank all who have had input to the running of the club this season. Good For Footy Raffle
The best way you can financially support your club now is through the Toyota Good for Footy Raffle. The funds raised here come straight back to the club. These funds will be used to rebuild up to date scoreboards on our top and bottom ovals. This will enhance the experience for all on game day. We are also hoping the scoreboards we can acquire will allow us to entice more sponsors to the club, due to the game day coverage we can provide them.

Please, get on board and purchase your tickets, with the chance to win 1 of 3 brand new cars. We need you. Tickets can be purchased through the link here: https://toyotagoodforfooty.raffletix.com.au/pennanthillsfc?v=1&sref=xncyrbpg

Not the way we wanted to go out, but we were beaten by the better side on the night.

Once again, a slow start had us fighting to stay in the game and although we hadn’t set the world on fire, we were still only 5 points behind at the long break.

We kicked the first goal of the third quarter to hit the front, and at that point looked like we could go on with it.

From then on, St George scored 5 goals to one for the quarter and we turned for home 25 points in arrears.

Although we had 5 scoring shots to 2 in the last quarter, we just couldn’t contain St George’s run and enthusiasm and bowed out a disappointed bunch.

Full credit to St George; they were up and about from the start and played the better footy.

Our decision-making and execution weren’t at their best and this is crucial to our game style.

Without going through the individuals, a big thanks to all involved with the Ressies this year.

For the most part it was a very enjoyable year, but this will take some time to get over.

Thanks to the Penno crowd for your support on the night, and let’s get behind the Div 2 girls on Sunday.
