From the President

This weekend many of our teams were scheduled a bye. This was welcomed as bodies prepare for our run into finals football. All grades, bar Premier Division were cancelled due to weather and ground closures. As a result, our only team to play this weekend was our Premier Division Women. This game was also broadcast on Sportscast, available to view on the AFL NSW/ACT website, available here.

If you have time, and haven’t seen the game, watch it. There is some beautiful football played in this game. You will see why these women are soooo close to being Premier Division Champions. To keep the opposition scoreless and kick ten goals makes for a great performance. On the back of just being pipped by, top of the ladder Eagals, two weeks ago, then beating second on the ladder (Sydney Uni) last week, what a great finish to our season. Well done ladies. I look forward to lifting our preparation for season 2023 to have a shot at the premiership.

Our Women’s Division 2 team are finals bound and I know will have lots of support in their quest to win the clubs first women’s premiership.

Our Premier Men had some good results from other games to take us from 6th to 4th on the ladder. We need to keep winning to keep our spot in finals eligibility. Premier Reserves Men are finals bound and will take the lessons learnt last week to enhance our chance of ultimate success.

101 Goals
Brianna-Lee Wade achieved a fantastic milestone for the club this weekend, kicking 101 goals in her career. She is the first Penno Women’s player to achieve 100 goals. Well done. I hope you stay around to lead our charge for a flag in season 2023 and kick 100 more at the Demons.
50 Goals
Laura Donohue also achieved an important milestone. Kicking her 50th Goal in women’s football at Pennant Hills. Well done and we hope you continue for many more years, kicking goals for our club.
Facilities
Some great news in that Hornsby Shire Council were successful in obtaining the grants necessary to finish the underneath of our club rooms. The $2.3M will enhance the precincts public toilets, Women’s changing facilities and storage for all clubs. We are still hopeful that we will get our rehabilitation/High performance area. This may be a reallocation of space in the old facility. Shovel will begin to turn within the next few weeks. Works are hoped to be completed by end July 2023. This will be conducted in stages to ensure no disruption to current capabilities.Works will be occurring during the coming weeks to complete stage 1. This will see greater security of our under-veranda storage area and tidying up some works. This coming week Parkwood will be attending to some warranty issues. We should have fully functioning hand soap dispensers and ladies toilet door for our next home round.

Lower Level Old Facilities
Current proposal is to convert current lower-level change sheds into public toilets with time lock doors. Grounds keeper lunchroom will become a disabled toilet. The existing meeting room (far left) could become our high performance facility.

Lower Level Facilities
The diagram below shows current plans for the lower level of the new club room facilities. You will note it includes enhanced change room facilities (4) to cater for women’s football and for officials. Concrete walkways around and tiered seating will ensure enhanced comfort and viewing of bottom oval games.
Large storage areas will allow for freeing of space in the old facility and removal of the containers from far side of bottom oval.
Functions
How good was the 50th celebration this week? In my humble opinion I thought it was an outstanding event. Thanks must go to our Vice President, Ian Parker, for his organisation of the night. There was  a mountain of work in organising the facility, the food, the decorations, The cake, the jumpers, the raffles, the running sheet, Tim Webster to MC, etc. etc. and logistics to pull it all together. Thank you Ian for a night that will be remembered for another 50 years. It was great to hear of our past, gain a greater understanding of how we have become the club we are, with such an envious culture and reputation. As the current President I was humbled, honoured and obligated to continue the great culture and ethos developed at the club. I feel I have been handed the wild brumby that was captured and tamed by predecessors, and now have the responsibility to keep it and enhance its value. A duty I feel privileged, and a great responsibility, to hold. Thank you to all who have input to the club to build it, and those who continue today.

The following photo is of the cake made for the night. A replica of the front of the 50th jersey, also produced for the occasion. If you do not have a jumper, and want one, I suggest you be quick as they are selling fast. At $50 each they are a steal. You can purchase a 50th jumper through the link here.

Good For Footy Raffle

The best way you can financially support your club now is through the Toyota Good for Footy Raffle. Entering the raffle gives you a chance to win 1 of 3 brand new Toyota cars! There are $250,000 worth of prizes to be won and tickets are $5; all proceeds from sales go directly to the club!

The funds raised here come straight back to the club. These funds will be used to rebuild up to date scoreboards on our top and bottom ovals. This will enhance the experience for all on game day. We are also hoping the scoreboards we can acquire will allow us to entice more sponsors to the club, due to the game day coverage we can provide them.

Please, get on board and purchase your tickets, with the chance to win a new car. We need you.

Match Reports

Premier Division Women
(PH 10.10.70 Defeated Macquarie Uni 0.0.0)

After an awesome win against Sydney Uni last week, we wanted to back it up against Mac Uni, who are one place behind us on the table. The key focus was to play hard and don’t take the foot off the pedal, to which we definitely achieved throughout the game.

Throughout the game, we took our chances and deliver some of the best ball movement we’ve accomplished all season. We chained together 4-5 kicks and clean marks and Mac Uni had no answer to our faster style. Eleanor Rugg was excellent out the back of the pack in the centres and was always the start of the strong delivery into our forward line. Ellie Cooper also provided some of the game’s best defensive moments and took on the opposition with pace when attacking the ball, and accurate kicks back into the corridor.

Mac Uni tried to play on at times but our tackling from players like Kaitlin Quinlan and Tayla Duguid proved too strong for them, and when the ball was turned over, we capitalised every time. Elly Rudd and Ella Morris were also great through the middle of the field with some smart switching plays and clearances that were the key to our success.

Ultimately, our forward line dominated the opposition, and players like Eliza McDonald, Eliza Harvey and Laura Donohoe all capitalised with some great goals and overhead strong marks. Our U18s Liv Morris and Grace Painting had excellent games showcasing their skills and making a huge impact when they were around the contest or taking marks.

Mac Uni had no answer to our 2 best players of the game. Co-captain Alex Wade had one of her best games of the season with 3 goals, and a good hundred disposals. Her leading and tackle pressure was awesome all game. Similarly, her sister Bri Wade also had a blinder, scoring 3 great ranged goals finishing the game with 101 total goals for Penno (our first player to do so on the women’s side). She has been a mainstay since 2018 and a brilliant centre half forward.

We go into next week with a chance at moving up a spot on the ladder if we win against UNSW, who we only lost to by 7 the prior game. Finishing the season on a high will mean a lot going into next year.

Round 16 Fixtures

In a big home round for the club, we bring UNSW-ES to our cauldron to gain the mental ascendancy over them as we continue our finals run. Prems Men continue to need to win. Reserves want to send a message to other clubs in finals contention that we are the team to beat.

Round 16, this round, is the final round for our Premier Division Women’s team. Such a shame that their season was shortened by two rounds. If we had those, based upon their form, they could have been finals bound. We look forward to their energy being in support of our other teams, especially our Women’s Division 2 as they prep for finals.
