Joel has always played his footy for the Demons, in the juniors and now in the senior club.

He started with the senior club in 2013 playing in the under 19s, with his first open-age game in 2015 with the Division 5 side.

 In 2018 Joel played a full season in Premier Division Reserves and was a member of the premiership side that year.

After coaching his brother’s junior side for several seasons, this season Joel is coaching the Under 19s team.

Joel is the oldest son of two times premiership coach, Michael Cousens. Joel’s favourite footy moment was when he got to play with his dad in a Division 3 match a few years ago
