This weekend the Club acknowledges a significant milestone achieved by one of the Club’s most intriguing players, Stevie ‘Stinger’ Wray. In this week’s Round 4 Premier Division match against UTS Bats, Stinger will notch up his 150th open-age game at home ground Mike Kenny Oval.
2022 is Steve’s 14th season for the Demons. He is a two-time Premier Division premiership player; winning flags in 2015 and 2017.
He was the senior team’s Most Consistent player in 2018 and Best Finals Player in 2019. In 2017, he was adjudged best on ground in the traditional ANZAC Day clash against Inner West Magpies.
Steve is an aggressive and creative player. He plays mostly at half-back and is excellent at rebounding the ball out of the back half.
He’s a popular personality at the Club, maybe a little quirky, and easily recognisable by the hissing Stinger call-sign that seems to accompany everything he does around the Club. Now 28 years of age, Stevie is at the peak of his powers. He plays with passion and flair in equal measure and is a key member of the team’s back six. He has always been a high achiever and plays with unrivalled self-assurance. He’s a bit of a risk-taker, but nevertheless can be depended upon to do the team thing and has the trust and respect of his team-mates. We wish him all the best in his 150th.
Go Penno!
