This weekend one of the Demon’s 2018 premiership players, Luke ‘Booker’ Turner, plays his 150th open-age game for the Pennant Hills Demons.
Since playing his 100th game in the Division One match against UTS Bats in 2016, Luke has been a regular member of the Reserve Grade side for the past three seasons. Unfortunately, the Demons were beaten by the Bats in Luke’s 100 game milestone match played at Waverley Park in Round 14 of 2016.
Breaking through for his first Flag with the Pennant Hills Senior Club, Luke was a member of the victorious team that won last season’s Premier Division Reserves Grand Final in 2018. What a momentous occasion it was for the Club which won its first Reserve Grade flag in more than 20 years. 1996 was the last time Penno had won in the Seconds, although we had been runners-up seven times in the intervening period.
Before this, Luke had previously played in the 2004 Under 18 Grand Final. The colts finished Minor Premiers that year, losing only one match during the H&A season. However, they fell two points short of winning the Flag, losing to second placed St George by a solitary point … 49 – 48! The Reserves and Third grade sides also made the Grand Final in 2004, but both also lost … zero and 3, a disappointing end to an otherwise successful season! In the Premier Division Seniors, Penno finished fourth and North Shore were the Premiers.
That year, 2004, was also notable for another of the Demon’s best players, Matt “King” Carey who kicked 133 goals for the Demon’s Under 18s. Not only did he top the goalkicking for the Under 18 competition, his 133 goals was the most by any player across the whole League that season. Also, coincidentally, the Demon’s Laine Spencer was the leading goalkicker in the Premier Division Seniors competition in 2004, with a total of 63 goals.
On behalf of everyone at Pennant Hills we wish Luke the best of luck for his 150 game milestone match and congratulate him on this magnificent achievement!
Go Penno!
